Ch Aksum Tiny Dancer 2010 TICA's International Best Chocolate Abyssinian Cat
Aksum Tiny Dancer is the next generation queen in our TICA chocolate breeding program. Her beautiful mother, Candy, is only the second chocolate Abyssinian ever to become a Quad Grand Champion and Regional Winner. Candy is the 2009 TICA's International Best Chocolate Abyssinian and 2009 4th Best Abyssinian in the U.S. Dancer's sweet-natured father, Traveler, is a Double Grand Champion. We hoped for a chocolate female in Candy's first litter of kittens who would have an exceptional personality and nice color and type, and we have it with this beautiful girl! She is outgoing and affectionate and purrs a lot. Dancer is unafraid and curious about her world. She also travels well, which is very helpful for a show cat. And of course, she loves to play! All of this makes her my forever kitty. As breeders who are working to improve the breed and are always moving forward on that quest, we can't and don't keep most of the cats that are used in our breeding programs. They are offered as retired breeders relatively young to carefully selected homes for a lot less than kittens cost. However, Dancer will always have a loving home here before, during and after her contribution to the breed.
I remember well getting to know her in the first couple weeks of her life. I was quite taken with her personality, and at first I decided she was a cinnamon which I couldn't keep for the breeding program, and thought somebody would be really lucky to get her as a companion pet. When I realized she was really a chocolate (the biggest clue, her tail tip, changed color), I said, "Wow! It's me!! I'm the lucky one!"
And so we have been bonded as best buddies from the beginning. She joins me on any trip where it will be safe and comfortable for her to come along, such as transporting a rescue, a trip to the pet store for food, supplies, or toys, to visit my parents an hour and a half away, or to pick up one of our two sons from school.
We have successfully bred Dancer to Alexy Temur Khan of Aksum and their kittens are due in April 2010. Temur Khan is a beautiful male chocolate Aby who joined us at the end of May 2009. He made his show debut at the Southeast Regional show in July with Dancer and her littermate Smoky. Temur is Linc's half brother (same sire). He is now a Champion. Temur and Dancer both have nice chocolate color, although Temur's color is darker and richer (more rufousing) and therefore closer to the Abyssinian standard. Dancer has a wonderful outgoing Aby personality, where Temur is a little more particular about what and who he likes, although he is always sweet-natured. Temur's ears are big and nicely placed, while Dancer's ears are not as big or well placed. Dancer is a very small girl at 5.5 lbs. and Temur is a very big boy at 11 lbs. Somewhere in the middle of all this is where the next generation of chocolate Abyssinians is headed.
